If you run a Polylang site and you want AI translation on top of it, there are three real third-party addons worth comparing in 2026. Quick disclosure before the list: I work at Cool Plugins, which makes AutoPoly, the first one on this list. The other two (Gato AI Translations and EPIC WP) are independent plugins from different developers. Both are genuinely good options. I will keep that honest as we go through each one.
What Polylang itself includes for AI translation
Polylang on its own does not include AI translation in the free build. Polylang Pro adds a built-in DeepL integration that handles bulk translation through the DeepL API. That works well for European language pairs (French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese) where DeepL is strong, but it is a single-provider option. If you want OpenAI, Gemini, Claude or any free no-API-key option, you need a third-party addon.
The three addons covered below all extend Polylang with AI translation. Each has a different take on which AI providers to include and how the bulk translation workflow is built.
1. AutoPoly: six AI providers (three of them free)
AutoPoly is our addon. We built it specifically because the early generation of Polylang AI addons supported a single provider and most did not handle Polylang's data model cleanly across page builders. Today it supports six AI options:

- OpenAI for editorial quality and tone-heavy content (GPT-4o recommended)
- Gemini for cost-efficient bulk translation
- DeepL for European languages
- Google Translate, free unlimited with no API key inside AutoPoly
- Yandex Translate, free unlimited, strong on Russian and Eastern European languages
- Chrome built-in AI, free in-browser translation with no API key and no quota
Beyond providers, AutoPoly handles bulk translation directly from the WordPress Pages and Posts screens (not from a separate editor), Elementor and Divi page builders, ACF and Meta Box custom fields, Yoast and Rank Math SEO meta, plus WPML-compatible taxonomy translation for categories and tags.
There is a free version on WordPress.org that ships with Yandex and Chrome AI built in, so you can run the bulk translation workflow at zero cost from day one. The premium version unlocks OpenAI, Gemini, DeepL and Google Translate plus the full bulk interface. The Polylang AI translation guide covers the full step-by-step setup if you want the deep walkthrough.
Bring your own OpenAI, Gemini or DeepL key. Or translate unlimited with Google Translate, Yandex or Chrome AI at zero cost.
2. Gato AI Translations for Polylang
Gato AI Translations is an independent Polylang AI addon that takes the broadest provider stance of the three. It supports ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Gemini, Mistral AI, OpenRouter (an aggregator for many models in one key), DeepL and Google Translate, plus self-hosted LLMs through Ollama. If you want to run translation against your own infrastructure or against a niche provider that the other addons do not cover, Gato is the one that fits.

Where Gato is strong:
- Widest list of LLM providers, including DeepSeek and Mistral AI
- OpenRouter aggregator for access to many models through a single API key
- Self-hosted LLM support via Ollama, useful for privacy-sensitive sites
- Broad page builder coverage: Classic Editor, Gutenberg, Elementor, Bricks and Etch
- Wide SEO plugin support: All in One SEO, Rank Math, SEOPress, Slim SEO, Yoast SEO and others
- Auto-translation triggers on post publish, taxonomy creation and image upload
Where it differs from AutoPoly: pricing is license-based without a free version on WordPress.org. The provider list is also API-key first (no equivalent of AutoPoly's free Yandex or Chrome AI options inside the addon). If your team already has an OpenAI or OpenRouter subscription and you want self-hosted LLM as a fallback, Gato is a strong fit. Take a look at the Gato website for the full feature list and pricing.
3. EPIC WP Polylang AI Automatic Translation
EPIC WP's Polylang AI Automatic Translation is a more focused bring-your-own-key addon by developer Robbert Vermeulen. It supports OpenAI, Claude, Gemini and OpenRouter as the AI provider layer, with a clear cost message of "as little as $0.02 per 1,000 words" through a direct provider key. Reviews highlight responsive support and a smart re-translation system that only re-processes the fields you actually changed.

Where EPIC WP is strong:
- Focused provider list (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, OpenRouter) with bring-your-own-key model
- Bulk translation in batches with real-time progress tracking
- Smart partial re-translation: only re-translates the fields you changed, not the whole post
- 85+ languages covered, including Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese
- Customizable AI prompts for brand voice consistency
- Elementor and Bricks Builder support, ACF and custom meta out of the box
- WooCommerce products, attributes and variations supported
- Auto-translates slugs and SEO meta (title, description) for multilingual SEO
Where it differs from AutoPoly: there is no free provider built into the addon (everything runs through your own API key, even for first-pass drafts), no DeepL integration and no self-hosted LLM option. For teams that are already committed to OpenAI or Claude and just want a clean BYOK workflow with smart re-translation, EPIC WP is a fair fit. The plugin page has the full feature list and pricing details.

Quick recommendations
- Want a free starting point and free unlimited providers built in: AutoPoly. Free version with Yandex and Chrome AI lets you translate at zero cost.
- Need the widest LLM list or want self-hosted Ollama support: Gato AI Translations. Strongest pick for teams that want DeepSeek, Mistral or a self-hosted model.
- Already on OpenAI or OpenRouter and want a clean BYOK workflow with smart re-translation: EPIC WP Polylang AI Automatic Translation.
- Translating mostly into European languages and Polylang Pro is already in your stack: Polylang Pro's built-in DeepL is the simplest path. Add AutoPoly when you want more providers (OpenAI for tone, Gemini for cost, Chrome AI for free).
- Running multiple multilingual stacks across clients: the TranslateXYZ bundle covers AutoPoly, AutoMLP, AutoTP and LocoAI together.
How to evaluate any Polylang AI addon
If you are looking at an addon that is not on this list, here is the checklist I run through before recommending one to a client:
- Does it support bulk translation? Single-post translation is fine for testing, but unusable at scale.
- Does it create proper Polylang translation relationships? Test on a sandbox. The translated post should show up linked to the source in Polylang's UI.
- Does it handle SEO meta? Yoast and Rank Math meta needs to translate alongside content or your translated pages lose ranking.
- Page builder compatibility? If you use Elementor, Divi or Bricks, confirm the builder data round-trips correctly.
- Provider flexibility? If you are locked to one AI provider, plan for the day prices change or a model is deprecated.
- Active maintenance? Check the last-update date and changelog. AI translation tooling changes fast and stale addons fall behind quickly.
The bundle covers AutoPoly, AutoMLP, AutoTP and LocoAI together. Practical for agencies and freelancers running different multilingual plugins per client.
Wrapping up
The Polylang AI addon space is in a much better state than it was two years ago. AutoPoly is our recommendation for the most common case (free starting point, six providers, three of them free with no API key). Gato AI Translations is the right pick when you need self-hosted LLM or the widest LLM list. EPIC WP is a solid focused BYOK option with smart partial re-translation. All three are actively maintained and worth evaluating against your specific workflow.
For the full bulk translation setup on Polylang, the Polylang AI translation guide walks through everything end to end. For broader context comparing Polylang against the other multilingual plugins, the three-way comparison covers pricing and workflow trade-offs.
